About

Dark Bright is a new band pioneered by Northern California based Kirana Peyton and Joni Davis. Kirana and Joni met in 2015 while playing in a project with Dawn McCarthy of Faun Fables. Discovering they had a mutual love of distorted guitars, analogue synths and dark chocolate led them to hours of musical explorations. Their histories have combined to create Dark Bright - a band of two voices, electric guitar and keyboards that creates an atmosphere of hard edges and beauty. Their music is informed by all that inspires them, including the Northern California landscape, visual arts, the written word and the natural world. Musical inspiration comes from Radiohead, Lhasa de Sela, PJ Harvey, Leonard Cohen and Amon Tobin.

Here's a little bit about Kirana:

While touring nationally and internationally, she's performed at Glastonbury Music Festival, "Silencio" David Lynch's private club in Paris,  and Austin City Limits as well as many other notable venues. Throughout her musical career she's had the good fortune of opening for Nick Cave’s Grinderman, Deerhoof, Kevin Barnes (of Montreal), Amanda Palmer, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum as well as many talented others. In addition, she wrote and performed vocal arrangements for Mo Perkins’ film “A Quiet Little Marriage”. During her classical musical training at Sonoma State University, she engaged in extensive studies in composition and received the great honor of being awarded the Lalmani Misra Memorial scholarship for classical Indian singing. You can catch Kirana performing in Jesca Hoop's band supporting Paul Simon in Hyde Park, London, July 15th, 2018!
